Tried at the Old Bailey, 16 April 1817. 693. ENOCH BENTONY was indicted for stealing, on the 1st of March , one handkerchief, value 1s., the property of William Price , from his person . WILLIAM PRICE . I live in Bread-street, Cheapside. On the 1st of March, I was in Holborn, between four and five o'clock in the afternoon; when I came to Broad-street, St. Giles's , there was a crowd - I was passing through it; just before I got to Queen-street, I felt something touch my pocket, and I missed my handkerchief. The prisoner turned round, and asked me if I had lost any thing, and the officer secured him. JOHN LINES . I am an officer. I saw the prisoner, and six more men. I followed them down Oxford-road. The prisoner made a rush between the others, and took the handkerchief out of Mr. Price's pocket - I searched him, and took the handkerchief out of his hat. (Property produced and sworn to.) GUILTY . Aged 21. Transported for Life . Second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Recorder.
