James Bergin was tried and convicted at Queens, Ireland, 15 March 1844, of having coining implements in his possession. His brother William on board 'Cadet' for same offence. Married man; 6 children; aged 50; farm labourer & ploughman; Roman Cathlic. 5'6 1/2";black to grey hair; brown eyes; reads & writes. Mother: Ellen; Brother: John; Sisters: Mary & Kitty - all at Native Place, Queens County. Station Gang: Brown River, VDL. Emerged from Gang 24/08/1845. 28/04/1846: Misrepresenting his capacity - 10 days imprisonment with hard labour. 28/03/1848: Ticket of Leave 16/04/1850: Conditional Pardon 06/05/1857: Free Certificate Application to bring out family from Ireland. 02/04/1849: Free passage for wife allowed for all except nephew. Brother William died in hospital at Ross 31/01/1850.
