His sister Mary was transported on the "Diamond" in 1837 for stealing clothes.




Matthew Berry a farm Labourer & native of Longford. January 1835 in Galway was sentenced to 7 years transportation, he was transported on the ship “Hive”. The Hive ran aground 10th December, 1835 near present day Jervis Bay, the Captain John Nutting was in bed drunk & asleep at the time of the incident. Earlier he was reported to have said to his officers when they had shown concern regarding sailing directions set for the night, "One person is sufficient to navigate the ship!".
