At Hertford Assizes, Simon Clarke, for horse stealing; Thomas Berry, for sheep-stealing; John Smith, for house-breaking; Richard White, for uttering base coin (he having been before convicted of the same offence at Middlesex, which renders the last a capital offence); and Thomas Thomas Thompson, for a rape: were severally found guilty, and received sentence of death. The Learned Judge told Berry and Thompson, that they must expect to receive no mercy. Northampton Mercury, 26 July 1806. Offences in VDL: 05/07/1817: Forging & Uttering - 100 lashes and 12mths gaol gang. 06/03/1819: Stealing from dwelling - 100 lashes and 6mths in gaol gang. 18/03/1819: Stealing - 25 lashes. 01/01/1824: Absent - 50 lashes. 10/12/1828: Neglect of duty - reprimand. 20/04/1829: Absent 20/07/1829: Behave improperly at Divine Service - 7 days Tread Wheel. 06/08/1829: Absent - 14 days Tread Wheel. 28/05/1830: Drunk - cells. Died 27/01/1832 van Diemen's Land.
