Essex Adjourned Sessions. John Bettis, 30, labourer, charged with having stolen a gown and pair of stockings, the property of Mary Ann Head, at Horndon on the Hill. It appeared that on the 11th January prosecutrix sent the articles to a Mrs. Carter, to be washed and that prisoner stole them while they were wet — Verdict, guilty. Prisoner was also convicted of havingstolen a round frock, the property of John Robinson, at Mucking. It was also proved that prisoner had been before convicted of felony. The Chairman said that prisoner  had heen sentenced under the name of James Green, in 1831, to 7 years’ transportation. He had also been convicted of felony under the name of James Langley, and the Court, therefore, now transported him for life.
