William Bettis was 22 years old on arrival and was transported for ‘Stealing a lamb’. William was 5’4 ½” tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, red whiskers, dark brown eyes, several moles on arms, mole on right cheek, 1 mole on left side of mouth, can read and write a little. William was married – wife Ann and 1 child. 6/11/1849: TOL 8/1/1853: CP 23/5/1854: Certificate. 21/11/1853: Permission to marry Sarah Coleman (Aurora 1851). 16/1/1854: They married. Had at least 1 child, also William. C1862: Moved to Lyttelton, NZ then to Auckland in 1864. 1904: William died in NZ aged 87 (NZ BDM) Sarah died in 1899 aged 83, NZ.
