NATIVE PLACE: Ulverston, Lancashire. He was single. TRIED: On 30 December 1833 and sentenced to 7 years for stealing a watch and a spoon (pledging his landlord's watch). He was previously tried for stealing spoons and acquitted. IN VDL: 1841: Granted a Free Certificate No.66. 1843, 16 September: Obtaining goods by false pretences - committed for trial. 1846, 7 January: In the Supreme Court Launceston - convicted for stealing a coat and waistcoat and sentenced to 7 years' transportation. Sent for 2 years to Port Arthur (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON31-1-5$init=CON31-1-5p170). 1848: Returned from Port Arthur (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON32-1-5$init=CON32-1-5p124). 1853, 8 January: Granted a Free Certificate (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON34-1-5$init=CON34-1-5P376). 1856, 3 July: Tried at Launceston for uttering a cheque - sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude. 1856, 22 August: Sent again to Port Arthur. 1861, 31 January: At Port Arthur, 45 days of his sentence was remitted (see https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON37-1-8$init=CON37-1-8p478).
