Thomas Bewick was 20 years old when transported. 1837: Assigned to the A A Co. Newcastle. 17/11/1837: Sentenced to 50 lashes for refusing to work. Isaac Eggleston gave evidence that Bewick came out of the pit leaving 21 skips of coal short of requirement and refused to go back. 1/12/1837: Sentenced to 75 lashes for refusing to do his work on 29/11. Was given 24 skips of coal to wheel and came up after only six. Stated he was not accustomed to the work. 21/10/1840: Absconded from the A A Co. Coal miner, aged 27 from Durham, sallow complexion, brown hair and eyes, scars on forehead, over left eyebrow, right side upper lip, palm on right hand whereby the finger is much contracted, right arm about the elbow much burnt. T B "prepare to meet they God" on chest. 28/10/1840: Apprehended. July 1848: married Elizabeth Williams (came free) at Newcastle. Elizabeth was 20 and Thomas 35. Found no children. 11/6/1870: Bell's Life in Sydney - A Bowyer, named Thomas Bewick was killed near Newcastle, by a tree falling on him. There is a death listed in 1875 at Liverpool for Elizabeth Bewick.
