John BIDGOOD was convicted at Plymouth, Devon, England on 7 July 1834 for stealing an umbrella. Gaol Report: "very bad, in custody before". 7 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Augusta Jessie' arriving January 1835. Punished onboard for stealing - flogged. Ship surgeon's report: "indifferent". Single man; aged 20 yrs; a baker; 5'0 1/2" height; fair complexion; light brown hair; blue eyes . Native place of birth: Plymouth, England. VDL: various work assignments. Some records of misconduct. Free Certificate no. 524 in 1841. 20 March 1843: Marriage, at Parish Church of England, Hobart. John BIDGOOD, aged 29 yrs, baker to Mary HILL, aged 21 yrs, spinster.
