Crime: Stealing a table cloth. 24/9/1824 Hobart Town Gazette: James Crawford and John Bimms, murder of John Low. The Jury returned a special verdict, on which no judgment has been given. James Crawford and John Bimms, stealing in a dwelling-house, and putting persons therein in fear. Guilty Death. Executed.




John BINNS was convicted at Dublin in March 1819. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to NSW, Australia per the 'Bencoolen' then transferred to the 'Admiral Cockburn' to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) arriving Sept 1819. Aged 18yrs; painter & glazier; 5'4"; dark eyes; dark sandy hair; fair, pale complexion. Native Place - Dublin, Ireland. Assignments in the Colony of VDL. 3 June 1820: steal an iron pot. 25 lashes. Aug 1824: Supreme Court, Hobart (details not recorded). Death sentence. 9 Sept 1824: Executed.
