At the Middlesex Sessions, on Tuesday, John Birch was indicted for stealing 401b of coffee, the property of Charles Scales. Two companions of the prisoner were tried and convicted of the above robbery at the last sessions. The prisoner, who had for some time eluded the vigilance of the police, was recently taken into custody. The Jury found him Guilty, and the Court sentenced him to be transported for seven years. The Era, 15 June 1845.

Transported for stealing coffee. Married. Stated the offence, stealing coffee, 1 bag, property at Old Street, for an assault, 2 months. Protestant, can read and write. Sawyer & house carpenter., age on arrival, 31. Native place, Shoreditch. Ticket of Leave. 5 Oct 1848. Misconduct, in fighting a prize fight with a free man. 3 months impt & hard labor. Recommd for a C.P. 11/9/49. 15/10/50 C.P. appd.
