Charles Bird was convicted at Reading, Berkshire on 24 Feb 1841 for stealing - pick pocketing. Previous conviction. 10 year sentence. (Noted as "troublesome" and misconduct.) Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the ship 'Mandarin' arriving 16 Oct 1843. Single; shoemaker & baker; Protestant; can read & write a little. Native Place: Newbury. As he was a youth, he was apprenticed straight away at Elizabeth St. Hobart. Conditional Pardon approved 12 Oct 1847.
