Arrived with 177 male Convicts (14 dv) Carried 30 Crew + 41 Marines Master: Duncan Sinclair She was the largest of the eleven vessels of the historic First Fleet to Australia. The First Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy escort ships, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply accompanied by six convict transports, the Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the Scarborough, and three store ships, the Borrowdale, Fishburn and Golden Grove. Convicts on the 1st Fleet Alexander are listed under Lady Penrhyn, Scarborough & Alexander.

Family connections for James (Bird) are: BIRD James (Bird) was born about 1748. He was tried for theft at Surrey Assizes at Croydon, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 1 1788 after a voyage of 8.5months on First Fleet ship ALEXANDER. He married Mary (Dismond) on 29 12 1790 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He left the colony on INDISPENSABLE in 1794. He must have returned as he is recorded as Free by Servitude in 1816. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary (Desmont/d) was tried w/1other for stealing in Covent Garden, on 5 8 1789, a wicker basket of food of Daniel (Read) at Old Bailey on 9 9 1789, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 7months on Fleet ship NEPTUNE; a voyage noted for extreme brutality of prisoners with a high death rate. She died on 4 4 1792 & was buried, as (Diamond), at St Johns CofE Parramatta. However, she is recorded, as follows, as being Free by Servitude & producing a child in 1816. She died on 17 5 1894 age about77. ..George (Davis) was born on 10 8 1817 in Sydney & baptised on 12 10 1817 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He was recorded in 1822 in Sydney with his parents. In 1825 he was recorded at John (Piper)s property 'Alloway Bank' Bathurst with his parents. He was recorded in 1828 with his parents at Goulburn Plains.
