James Bird was 24 years old when transported for stealing fowls. He had previously been prosecuted for poaching 5 times before. He was described as: Born in Ashley, Cambridgeshire, grey eyes, brown hair, 5'8" tall, a widower, now single, a Womans Head and a H on right arm. 1844: COF James married Ann Ricketts in Launceston at St. John's C of E on 20/2/1844. Ann arrived on the Garland in 1844. 4/1/1852: James departed Launceston to Melbourne.
