The Patriot Convict Indentures state that John Bishop was 38 years old. He could neither read or write; religion Protestant; status married with no (recorded) children and a native of Herefordshire. His trade was labourer and soldier in 29 Regiment. He was convicted of mutinous conduct at Mauritius General Court Martial on 2October 1836 and convicted to transportation for life. He had prior convictions for which he served 2 months, 300 lashes, 200 lashes, 12 months, 1 month, 20 days and 2 years.. Physical attributes - Height 5 feet 7 1/2 inches; complexion dark ruddy; hair dark brown and eyes dark hazel. Transport number: 12. Prisoner number 38-209.
