CRIME: Inverness Courier - Wednesday 25 April 1827 page 2 "Aberdeen Assize "ADAM BLACK, charged with several acts of theft, aggravated by being habit and repute a common thief. The panel pled [sic] guilty to four of the charges as libelled. The Prosecutor restricted the libel to an arbitrary punishment, and the jury having found the Pannel guilty, his Counsel stated that the acts were committed under extreme poverty, and hoped the Court would be as lenient as possible. He was sentenced to transportation for fourteen years." CONVICT INDENT for "PRINCE REGENT" Adam Black, age 48, read and write, Protestat, Married, 1 child, Native of Aberdeen, a Shoemaker. Crime recorded on indent as "forgery". Tried Aberdeen, 17 April 1827, given 14 hers. 5ft 8inches, Ruddy complexion, grey hair and hazel eyes." there were no other comments on his indent. However numbers "C42/1253" and "34/601' were recorded for him indicating he received some forms of commutation of sentence.
