John BLACK was convicted at Salop Assizes, Shropshire, England on 30 July 1828 for house breaking. Previous convictions for stealing geese. Life sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the Lady Harwood arriving 1829. Single man; a baker; aged 20yrs; 5'2 1/4"; dark complexion; dark brown hair; grey eyes. Native place of Birth: Roscommon, Ireland. (ref. Indent record) VDL: Assigned to work service. 22 Nov 1831: Mr. Watson - neglect of duty & insolence. Admonished & Discharged. 3 Aug 1836: Mr. Watson - misconduct in making a complaint against his Master. 48 lashes. 8 Dec 1836: Died in the service of Mr. Watson, Sorell, VDL. Aged 28yrs, transported per Lady Harewood. Death ref: 34/1/1 no. 4692.
