Walter returned to England and married Eliza Roberts with whom he had two children, Walter John in 1855 (who died aged 3 days) and Joseph (1856-1911). Eliza died in 1866 and in 1868 Walter married Sarah Hume Cooke (1823-1904). Walter is listed in various census records as a Farmer of Tanners Hill, Bewdley but at the end of his life farmed at Lower Hollins Farm, Rock, Nr Bewdley.
Convicted of stealing straw from a location in Bewdley in Worcestershire. Sentenced at Worcester to transportation for 7 years on 4th January 1841 (when aged 19) and arrived at the prison hulk Fortitude at Chatham in Kent on 22nd January 1841. Probably from Bewdley and baptised at St Leonard's Church in Ribbesford (the parish church for Bewdley) on 3rd Apr 1821, son of Walter Blackford (a comb-maker) and his wife Martha. Walter had returned to England by 1854 when he married Eliza Roberts.
