John Blades was sentenced in 1845 to life transportation of a charge of highway robbery. He was initially transported to Norfolk Island in 1846 and Van Diemens Land in 1847. John Blades and Sophia Robley (b.1834) (Port Cygnet) had the following family- Mary Jane 1856, Elizabeth Sarah 1857, John 1858. Died, Mary Ann 1859, Esther 1862, John George 1864, Unnamed male 1869, unnamed male 1871, Sophia 1874, Frederick 1875, William Frederick 1875 (twin), Walter Albert 1877. Mary Jane Blades married Thomas Higgins in 1872. [note added here by m. Jones a descendant of Esther Blades who married Oliver Jones]
