Date of census (above entry) was 1828, not 1812. PUBLIC NOTICE. POLICE OFFICE, HOBART TOWN, Saturday, July 18th, 1818 WHEREAS ... and - James Blake, a Convict, tried in Surrey came from England in the Ship Marquis of Wellington, aged 27 years, complexion sallow, hair and whiskers black, is stout made, late servant to Mr. Dry at Launceston; - and Richard Baldwin, a Convict, tried at Surrey, came from England in the Ship Atlas (the 3d), is about 18 or 19 years of age, slight made, late servant to Mr. Dry at Launceston; -have absconded from their lawful Occupations in the County of Cornwall. Hobart Town Gazette, 25 July 1818. James Blake, arrived in New South Wales by the Marquis of Wellington. He arrived in VDL on the Emu. Tasmanian Record: https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON13-1-1$init=CON13-1-1p46 His name is on a list of 31 Mechanics and Labourers to be embarked on H,M C. Brig Emu for the Service of the Government at Port Dalrymple in Van Diemen’s Land, 30 October 1815. No 25. James Blake, labourer, Marq. Of Wellington, convicted at Surry Ass. 24 March 1814, sentence 7 years.
NSW Census, 1812, Parramatta lists James Blake, age 48, ship Ms Wellington, 1815, occupation, shoemaker, protestant, living in household of Thomas Ashby, 48, (ship, SW Bensley, 1817), also a shoemaker, his 2 sons, William and Benjamin Ashby, and another shoemaker, John Leman, (Shipley, 1817) aged 68.
