Sussex Assizes. … Crown Court twenty prisoners were tried, thirteen whom were capitally convicted and received sentence of death, viz. ... James Blake, aged 33, for burglariously entering the dwelling house of William Whapham, landlord of the Buck, at Laughton, and stealing therein four pounds in silver and money, his property. ... Kentish Gazette, 3 Apr 1812. ------------------------------------------------- At Horsham, H. Collings, for burglary, Michael Cry, James Blake, Wm. King, Priscilla Jones, John Bingham, S. Harmer, John Palfi, Thomas Reeves, and Randall Carr, for burglaries and thefts; and G. Thomas, for wilfully shooting at James and George Alfey ; were severally sentenced to suffer death, but afterwards reprieved. Bath Chronicle, 2 April 1812.
