John Blake was listed as 20 years old on arrival in VDL. Native Place: Wigan, Lancashire. Occupation: Blacksmith imperfect. Transported for "housebreaking and stealing 31 pairs of boots & 15 pairs of shoes from a shop in liverpool". Was houses on the Hulks in England before he was transported and received 12 lashes for attempting to escape. John was 5'1½" tall, could read, was single, fresh complexion, dark brown hair, no whiskers, hazel eyes, freckled, scar corner of right eye, long scar over right eye, scar on nose, scar on left eyebrow. Brothers: William, James Sister: Catherine - at Liverpool. 29/5/1849: Ticket of Leave. 3/9/1850: Ticket of Leave revoked - for being drunk and being out after hours. 7/12/1852: Larceny under £5, Hobart - existing sentence extended 18 months 25/10/1854: Free Certificate. (Working for himself). No death date found - many John Blake's in VDL at the same time, some were convicts, some settlers, or children of settlers.
