Michael Blake was listed as 21 years old on arrival. Native Place: County Galway. Transported for 'Stealing a mule'. Occupation: Indoor servant/music dancing master. Michael was literate, RC, single, 5' 7" tall, ruddy complexion, brown hair, light hazel eyes, Scar over left eyebrow, scrofula marks on throat and right side of neck, blue dot back of right hand, scar on each shin. 17/5/1834 Sydney Monitor: Michael Blake, assigned servant to Messrs. Hosking and Hughes, and John Garrety, assigned to Dr. Fattorini, were put to the bar, charged- with a robbery. 10/1/1838 Sydney Monitor: TURSDAY, JANUARY 9. Before the Chairman and Captain Clarke. SUMMARY JURISDICTION--Michael Blake was charged with stealing several articles of plate; the property of Mrs. Bunn. It appeared from the evidence that the prisoner, under the assumed name of Kelly, engaged himself as butler in the service of Mrs. Bunn on the 26th of October last ; on the 28th of the same month, the plate was given into his charge ; on the 31st he absconded, and on the evening of the same day, it was discovered that silver articles to the value of above twenty pounds were missing. Suspicion immediately rested on the prisoner, who was, the next day from the description given of him, apprehended by Sergeant Price, at the Red Cow public house, Bathurst street. Overton, the landlord, received from the prisoner several articles of plate, to take care of. Blake represented himself to Overton as the brother of Mrs Bunn, and although previous!y totally unknown to him, succeeded in obtaining from him a loan of ten pounds on the security of the silver. It also appeared, that on the same day, the prisoner, in company with another man, whom he represented to be his servant, called at the shop of a general dealer in George-street, named John Isaacs, and offered to dispose of some silver spoons and forks, for four shillings an ounce; Isaacs suspecting something was the matter, refused to have any dealing with the prisoner, who then left the shop. The property was given up by Overton, and identified by Mrs. Bunn. In his defence, the prisoner urged, that as he was not capable of cleaning the silver himself, he had removed it to have it done. The Jury found him guilty, and sentenced by the Chairman to be transported to a penal settlement for seven years. It alan appeared that Blake was a prisoner for life by the Java, and assigned to Mr. Lawson, of Macquarie plains, Bathurst, from where he had absconded, and been absent a considerable time. 19/9/1841: Michael Blake died at Port Macquarie, NSW - aged 29. - Invalid Register.
