Gloucester Summer Assizes. … Stephen Blakeman, for stealing a lamb, the property of J. Franklin, of Saintbury. Bath Chronicle, 2 Sep 1830 At the Gloucester Assizes, person named Blakeman was tried for sheepstealing, and while one the witnesses was giving evidence of a confession, the prisoner exclaimed, You are a false fellow; you would swear a gray horse was a chandler’s shop, and every hair upon his back a pound of candles.
