This is not the Thomas Bligh (also Blythe, Blyth?) who married Sarah BARTLETT - Sarah's spouse arrived on the Emperor Alexander in 1833 (see his record under Thomas Bligh)and was convicted in Kent.

sarah bartlett married Thomas Bligh who came on ship Emperor Alexander. However the name Bligh can be spelt Blyth Blythe, Blithe, so can be confusing. This Thomas Blyth is my ancester and his name should be spelt with an e on the end. There were two sarah bartlett's arrived in Tasmania 3 years apart, the first was transported on the Platina and was convicted at Exeter, she appeared to have numerous permissions to marry- they either died or they changed their minds!

His father was Charles Blythe who was convicted at the same time and drowned when his ship the Waterloo wrecked off cape town. Thomas was definitely born in Watton at stone in Hertfordshire and the family moved to Coventry in Warwickshire. Brother Charles had been transported in 1835. The family had criminal tendencies for some time! Thomas had already served imprisonment sentences on more than one occasion whilst sister Elizabeth served 9 months imprisonment, my 3g. grandfather James Blythe was acquitted of receiving stolen goods. Not sure why Thomas and his father were on different ships though!

Thomas was born at Watton at Stone in Hertfordshire and charged and convicted with his father Charles on the 19th of March 1842 in Warwick. Both men received 7 years transportation but were first moved to the prison hulks in Chatham & Woolwich. They were transported on different ships and Thomas' father drowned on the Waterloo at Capetwon
