John Board was 26 years old on arrival in VDL. He had been in the 11th regiment for 3 years and 8 months and was transported for "Desertion and taking a watch, a suit of clothes and 7/6 of money". John was 5'8 1/2" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, tattoos. Father: Thomas, Mother: Mary, 4 brothers and 1 sister. 155/1848: TOL 12/8/1852: CP 12/12/1855: COF 5/11/1851:Married Judith Conway/Conroy (Australasia 1849) They had 1 son, Thomas born in 1853 and died 7/12/1898 aged 46 and was a farmer with 10 children, the youngest was 2 years old. 20/12/1898: John died of influenza at "Apsley Vale" near Llandaff aged 80. He was listed as a farmer. Judith died 11/12/1898, 9 days before John, aged 85.
