Family connections for William (Boggis) are: Amendment added Jun 2025. BOGGIS William (Boggis) became a sailor. He arrived in Australia as a convict in 1788 after a voyage of 12months on First Fleet ship SCARBOROUGH. [Noted that a Lydia/Lidia/Letitia (Mu/onro/e/w) was nearly raped at age about19 by a William (Boggis SCARBOROUGH 1788) with assistance of John (Owen SCARBOROUGH 1788) on 12 9 1788, being saved by Donald (Gordon).] He arrived on Norfolk Island on 17 3 1790. He is recorded as Free by Servitude in 1791 & had a relationship with Elizabeth (Smith her second? relationship), his assigned convict, on Norfolk Island. He is recorded in 1794 as earlier being a sailor. He left Norfolk Island in October 1796 to Sydney, relinquishing his land to the Government. William (Boggis) does not have an entry on this Website as yet-added by me. Elizabeth (Smith) was born about 1749. She had a first relationship with ??? (Carr). As Elizabeth (Smith/Carr) she was tried w/1other, Thomas (???), for theft of a watch etc of George (Jones), on 2 6 1787, at Old Bailey on 11 7 1787, sentenced to 7years, held for 2years probably at London/Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 3 6 1790 after a voyage of 12months on Fleet ship LADY JULIANA-a ship with 228females who easily entertained the whole crew & also sailors at Teneriffe stopover. On 31 7 1790 she was sent to Norfolk Island on SURPRISE. She was assigned to William (Boggis) Free by Servitude after March 1791. She is recorded in 1795 as on stores on Norfolk Island. She left Norfolk Island in February 1805 or in 1806 & is recorded in 1806 & 1811 as Free by Servitude & single. In 1814 she is recorded as widowed. She died on 21 8 1820 age68/71 & was buried at Sydney burial ground St Phillips CofE in the (Tompson) plot. [Some information taken from this Website. Noted that another Elizabeth (Smith) was transported on LADY JULIANA & probably it is she who had relationships with James (Grace) convict from FRIENDSHIP 1788 who died on 15 11 1793 on Norfolk Island & Samuel (Free) convict from FRIENDSHIP 1788.] William (Boggis) & Elizabeth (Smith) produced 2children: 1.Elizabeth (Boggis) was born on 3/13 2 1792. She is recorded in 1795 as on stores on Norfolk Island. She was placed in an orphanage & is recorded at Female Orphanage School Sydney in 1802. She married at age14 Charles (T(h)ompson his first marriage) on 8 6 1806 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & produced 7children. She died on 19 3 1822 age30 & was buried at Sydney burial ground St Phillips CofE with her mother in the (Tompson) plot. ..Charles (T(h)ompson) son of Charles (Tompson) & Martha Louisa (Webster) was born about 1784 & christened on 12 5 1784 at St Phillips CofE Birmingham Warwickshire; he became a gentleman. He was tried for stealing 2library books of Mr (Bingham) of Warwick, in March 1802, at Warwick Assizes, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 5 1804 after a voyage of 6months on COROMANDEL; he could read & write & was assigned to the office of Commissioner (Palmer). He quickly had shops in Pitt St & Hunter St selling bread & meat to returning ships & books. He was granted land which he called 'Birmingham'. He sold 'Birmingham' in order to purchase 700acres called 'Clydesdale' near Marsden Park in 1819. He was issued his freedom ticket on 16 2 1811.
