They had 7 children. 10/7/1860: Son Francis James died aged 10 days, he was buried with Margaret and Joseph at the Dubbo Pioneer Cemetery. 22/11/1864 On the 2nd instant, at Dubbo, Margaret, wife of Mr. Joseph Boland, late of the Royal Hotel, aged 31 years. 4/7/1865: Joseph was declared Insolvent – Innkeeper at Dubbo. 24/9/1881 Freeman’s Journal: Death of an old Colonist. — On Saturday night (sayso the Dubbo Dispatch) -Mr. Joseph Boland — one of the oldest residents of the district, and a very old colonist — died at his residence, Darling-street, Dubbo. Deceased was a native of Macroom, Cork, Ireland. He arrived in the colony 54 years ago, when he was about 8 years of age. He was for a long lime in the employ of Messrs. Doyle of the Namoi, Messrs. Christie and Wentworth at Burburgate and on the Macquarie and Mr. Rouse. He at one time owned a station on the Marra Creek, and after disposing of it, kept the Royal Hotel, Dubbo, for some time. During the last sixteen years, he has been out of business. The cause of death was heart disease. Mr. Boland was a most methodical man in his habits. A strict teetotaller — 'early to bed and early to rise,' was a rule he acted upon. Deceased was, perhaps, one o£ the best known men in the north-west, and few of the older generation but will hear of his death with regret. Kindly and generous, he was always ready to oblige. The funeral took place on Monday — the body being followed to the Roman Catholic Cemetery by a large number of friends.
