Portsmouth Hulks. HO-9-8-3. One of three received from Northampton, 13 Sept 1809. Joseph Bonham, age 32, Burglary, Tried 6 Mar 1809 at Northampton, NSW Life, sent on Indian, 27 June 1810.




On Wednesday was committed to the town gaol, for re-examination on Monday morning next, by Luke Kirshaw, Esq. Mayor, Joseph Bonham, who was apprehended the preceding evening at the Red-Lion public-house, Bedford, on suspicion of having broken into the into the shop of Mr. B. Collins, in the Drapery, in this town, and stolen therefrom divers watches, as specified in our last. The above culprit underwent a very minute examination before the said L. Kirshaw, J. Cooch, and T. Hall, three of the Magistrates for this borough, when five of the watches were produced, and it was satisfactorily ascertained that they had been sold by the prisoner to different people at Bedford and its vicinity. Bonham has resided at this place for some time in the capacity of housekeeper. Northampton Mercury, 6 Aug 1808. -------------------------------------------------- At the assizes for this county, which ended on Thursday, Joseph Bonham, for breaking open the shop of Mr. Collins, of this town; Joseph Harris, for sheep-stealing, at Weekley; and John Barrick alias Barrett, for feloniously killing a sheep, were capitally convicted Northampton Mercury, 11 March 1809. -------------------------------------------------- At Northampton, Joseph Bonham, for burglary; Joseph Harris, for sheep stealing; and John Barrett, for killing a sheep, received sentence of Death but were all reprieved. Manchester Mercury 4 April 1809.
