Convict Notes
John Bonser had been convicted twice before for a Till and money. John was 5'7 1/2" tall, single. 3/2/1844: First-class Probation Pass-holder. 20/10/1847: CP 10/2/1849: COF listed as 'Bonsor' 15/1/1850: John 'Bonsor' died at the Launceston Hospital of Rheumatism. There was no other John Bonsor listed as a convict so presumably this is the above John. No marriage permissions or marriage found. No further mentions of John Bonser or Bonsor after 1850.
Extract from Leicester Journal - Friday 6th March 1840 says, "John Bonser 18 was charged with having, on the 17th inst? feloniously stolen a cloak, gown, handkerchiefs, seven canary birds and a rabbit, the property of Edward Henry Charlesworth; and Elizabeth Swain, 21, was charged with feloniously receiving the same, well knowing them to have been stolen. Bonser was sentenced to 10 years transportation. The waoman was acquitted."
