Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

The convict indentures state that Richard Bonus was 23 years old. He could neither read nor write; Religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Meath. He was a shepherd. Richard was convicted of assault on 20 October 1835 at Kildare and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 5 1/4 inches; complexion fair and freckled; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 65. Prisoner number 36-1870. Received ticket of leave on 8 October 1840 (number 40/2072). Received Certificate of Freedom on 1 May 1843 (number 43/690) at Windsor. Subsequently sentenced to 14 days imprisonment from 24 December 1846 to 5 January 1847. Records state that he was free on admission. Crime not known. Reference - Goal description and Entrance Book Parramatta, NSW. Surname recorded in records as Bonns. All other details match Richard Bonus arriving in 1836 on the Waterloo.
