She was tried w/her son for burglary of shop, May 1786/7, in Ilchester Somerset at Bridgewater Somerset Assizes in August 1786/7 & sentenced to death. She died on 22 8 1786or87 age36 by hanging. John Dore (Bootle) & Grace (Bright) produced at least 1child: 1.John (Bootle) was born about 1771/74 & became a labourer. He was recorded in 1821 as a settler & in 1824, 1826 & 1827 as a farmer. He was recorded in 1828 Free by Servitude as farmer with his family on 521acres at Pitt Town. He died on 28 2 1830 age56 at Pitt Town & was buried at St James CofE Pitt Town. John's Mother, Grace Bootle, was executed for burglary on 22 Aug 1787, with 2 others, Edmund Connell, for burglary, and John Cary, for Highway robbery, not in 1786.




National Archives. HO 47/6/78 1787 Aug 15 Certificate/memorial of Nash Grose on those prisoners capitally convicted on the Western Circuit but 'some favourable Circumstances' appeared on/after their trial and recommended to mercy on the conditions set against their names: Somerset Assizes at Bridgwater, 11 August 1787 John Boote, for burglary. 14 years transportation.

John Bootle was the son of Grace Bootle(Bright) and John Dare. In May 1786 Grace and John burgled a shop in Ilchester, Somerset. They were caught and tried in August 1786 at Somerset Assizes and both sentenced to death. Grace was hanged in August 1786 aged 36 while John's sentence was commuted, on account of his youth (he was 12 at the time), to 14 years transportation. He spent from August 1786 to December 1789 on a prison hulk in Portsmouth Harbour. In December 1789 he was transported on the Neptune of the Second Fleet and arrived in Sydney on 30 July 1790. John married Catherine Soares, the daughter of 2nd fleet Convict John Soares and 3rd Fleet Convict Sarah Guest at Parramatta in September 1808. He died at Pitt Town NSW in 1830.
