Robert Boss was transported on the Recovery, departing 26th Oct 1835 and arriving 25th Feb 1836 with 283 passengers.

Built 1799 Batavia, 493 tons. 1823 voyage. Also arrived the same morning, (i.e. Thursday last) from Ireland, having sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 5th April, the ship Recovery, Captain Fotherley, with 180 male convicts, in tolerable health : no deaths on the passage. Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Cunningham, R. N. The guard comprises a detachment of the 1st, or Royals, commanded by Captain Gill, who is accompanied by his Lady. Three free passengers come out by this conveyance, at the expence of the Crown. Sydney Gazette, Thurs 7 Aug 1823. 1835 voyage. Surgeon's general remarks. On 5th October 1835, the Guard embarked at Deptford, consisting of 1 staff, 1 subaltern, 2 sergeants, 1 drummer, 26 rank and file of the 28th Regiment, accompanied by 8 women and 4 children. On the 19th at Spithead we received on board 160 male convicts from the Leviathan and 120 from the York Hulk and in the 30th got under weigh, previous to which, the convicts were discharged to the hulks in consequence of their being a great nuisance on board. Family connections for Robert (Boss) are: BOSS Riley (Boss) & Charlotte (??? who may have arrived in NSW with her son Robert (just below) on 25 2 1836 after a voyage of 4months on RECOVERY) produced at least 2children: 1.Robert (Boss) was born on 1 9 1817 at Leamington Warwickshire. He became a horse dealer gypsy musician. He (recorded as living at Milverton Warwickshire) was tried with his brother Charles of horse theft, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW with his brother Charles & maybe with his mother on 25 2 1836 after a voyage of 4months on RECOVERY; he was illiterate Protestant 5.75' dark ruddy & pickpotted complexion black hair chestnut eyes, scar on back of left hand. He married Elizabeth Letitia (Rex/Ricks) on 22 5or1 7 1844 at CofE Kelso. He was issued his Ticket of Leave for Bathurst in 1845 & Conditional Parden on 10 8 1850. In 1851 he lived at Fredericks Valley & in 1855 at Mount Macquarry near Carcoar. In 1864 he threatened to kill his wife & children, was placed on bail; he then attempted suicide with strychnine. Robert Boss was 18 years old on arrival. Native Place: Milverton, Warwickshire. Son of Riley Boss and Charlotte. Occupations: Horse dealer, musician, (Gypsey). Robert was illiterate, protestant, single, 5'4¾" tall, dark ruddy and pockpitted complexion, black hair, chestnut eyes, scar back of left hand ; brother to 36-769, which was Charles Boss, tried on the same date for the same crime and was also onboard. 22/5/1844: Married Elizabeth L Rex at Kelso, NSW. (Elizabeth was 16 years old when she arrived with her parents George and Mary per 'Orestes' - she was a dressmaker, and was literate). Children: 1843: Matilda M J 1845: Isabella D 1846: Elizabeth L 1850: Emily E 1852: Jane Agnes. 1854: Charles T R 1855: George 1856: Noah R 1858: Mary A 1860: Elias 1863: Charlotte E 1865: Owen S 1867: Arthur P 1870: Victor Edward - d 26/12/1870. (buried with parents). Most children born at Carcoar, NSW. 1845: TOL, Bathurst. 10/8/1850: CP 1851: Lived at Frederick's Valley, NSW. 1855: Lived at Mount Macquarry, near Carcoar. 29/11/1864: Sydney Morning Herald: CARCOAR A farmer, named Robert Boss, was lately sent to gaol for threatening to kill his wife and children ; he was afterwards liberated on heavy bail, and returned to his home, when he made an attempt on his own life by taking strychnine. Fortunately he was discovered by his family just as he had drunk a small portion of the dose, when they dashed the cup from his hand and sent for Dr. Rowland, who quickly administered an emetic, which seems to have had the desired effect. He is now nearly recovered from the effects of his folly. 14/1/1904: Robert Boss died, aged 88. Buried at Carcoar Cemetery, with Elizabeth. Elizabeth died 10/6/1887, aged 65.
