CON37-1-2/CON37-1-2p269 Indent No; 602 TRIED; Auckland. 1 December 1845 OFFENCE; Stealing trousers & Shirts property Webb a Waterman at Auckland. Lived with Edwin Rose on board PREVIOUSLY TRANSPORTED; for 7 years for stealing £5. At Parkhurst 2 1/2 years & and sent to New Zealand as an Immigrant by the "Mandarin Age; 21 years old Status; Single Trade; Shoemaker Aged; 19 years old Height; 5 ft 4 in, Complexion; Ruddy. Brown hair & blue eyes Native place; Bastlebridge 1852 - 17 December 1852. Free Certificate *** The Parkhurst apprentices, juveniles from a reformatory attached to Parkhurst Prison on the Isle of Wight, were sentenced to "transportation beyond the seas" and transported to Australia and New Zealand between 1842 and 1852. Either before leaving England[1] or on arrival at their destination,[2] they were pardoned on the conditions that they be "apprenticed" to local employers, and that they not return to England during the term of their sentence. In the ten years between 1842 and 1852 nearly 1500 boys aged from twelve to eighteen were transported to Australia and New Zealand from Parkhurst Prison.
