Family connections for James (Bowler) are: BOWLER James (Bowler) was born about 1774. He was tried at Derby Quarter Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 27 7 1807 after a voyage of 6months on DUKE OF PORTLAND. He married Ann (Allen her second (2of3) relationship) on 6 5 1810 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He died as emancipist on 29 6/2 7 1819 age45 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Ann (Alla/en) was born about 1784. She had a first (1of3) relationship in England & produced 1child. She was tried for stealing printed cotton w/3others, in November 1807, of David (Mcclure) of Wigan at Liverpool Assizes Lent session Lancaster/shire on 16 3 1808, sentenced to death reprieved to Life, held at Lancaster Castle & arrived in NSW as a convict with her son on 20 12 1808 after a voyage of 5months on AEOLUS. She is recorded in 1825 with Conditional Pardon with her children at Liverpool, employed by Thomas (Calligan) as housekeeper. She married thirdly Thomas (Spencer) on 1 9 1824 at St Lukes CofE Liverpool. She died as an emancipist on 15 9 1826 age42 mother of 4children & was buried, as (Bowler), in the (St Phillips CofE?) Devonshire St Cemetery, later re-interred at Bunnerong. [Some details taken from this Website] .. James (Bowler) & Ann (Allen) produced 3children: 1.Samuel (Bowler) was born on 29 8 1810 & baptised on 30 8 1810 at St Johns CofE Parramatta; he was living at Liverpool when he was baptised again on 27 12 1824 age14 w/Elizabeth at St Marys RC Sydney-a common practice when Catholic services became available. He is recorded in 1825 with his mother at Liverpool. He was living in Sydney when he married Bridget (Byrne her second marriage) on 28 7 1829 at St Marys RC Sydney. He died on 23 11 1884 age74. ..Bridget (Byrne) was born in 1811. She may have married firstly Charles (Gregory) of Sydney on 25 9 1827 at St Marys RC Sydney. She died on 22 4 1875 age about63 mother of 1known child. ..Details of Bridget (Byrne)s family are given in entry for Hugh (Byrne TELLICHERRY 1806) on this Website.. .. 2.Sarah (Bowler) was born on 21 11 1812 & baptised on 17 11 1813 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. She died on 14 11 1814 age2- & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. 3.Elizabeth/Betsey (Bowler) was born on 4 6 1815 & baptised on 17 9 1815 at St Phillips CofE Sydney & again on 27 12 1824 age9 w/Samuel at St Marys RC Sydney. She is recorded in 1825 with her mother at Liverpool. James died in 1819, however, his family are recorded in the 1825 muster: Bowler, Henry, 18, born in the colony, son of Mrs. Allen, Liverpool. Bowler, Samuel, 14, born in the colony, son of Mrs. Allen, Liverpool. Bowler, Elizabeth, 10, born in the colony, daughter of Mrs. Allen, Liverpool. Allen, Ann, conditional pardon, Eolus, 1808, life, housekeeper to Thos. Calligan, Liverpool. No record located in 1828 except for step-son, Henry: [Ref A0285 - page 32] Allen, Henry, 20, CF, Aeolus, 1810, Labourer to John McGuigan, Liverpool Rd, Lower Minto.

In the colony, James married Ann Allen (Convict, Eolus, 1809). They married at Parramatta May 6th 1810. James Bowler of the parish of Parramatta and Ann Allen were married in this church by banns this sixth day of May in the year one thousand eight hundred and ten by me Samuel Marsden. Both James and Ann signed the register by making their X marks in the presence of John Peat who signed the register and Elizabeth Cook who made her X mark. Ann already had a son, Henry who came with her when she was transported. James and Ann had three children: Samuel 1810, Sarah 1812 and Elizabeth 1815. Young Sarah died as an infant.
