When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

On Friday, George Faulkner and Edmund Bowley, bricklayers’ labourers, of Brighton, were brought before the Rev. T. R. Kemp, on a charge of violating Sarah Phillips girl of 14 years of age, and, after a strict examination of the evidence against the prisoners, they were fully committed to take their trial Suffolk Chronicle, 27 Feb 1817. George Faulkener and Edward Bowley, the former aged 29, the latter 16, were capitally indicted for having violated Sarah Phillips, the parish of Portslade, on the 9th of February last. Guilty— Death. Stat, 31 March 1817. George Falconer and Edmund Bowley, under sentence death for a rape, are to suffer at Horsham on Saturday next. Public Ledger, 10 April 1817.
