On Friday night last, or early on Saturday morning, the shop of Mr. Sadd, in Trumpington-street, was feloniously broken into, and chased gold seals, gold chains, two musical snuff-boxes, an antique agate snuffbox, and various other articles, stolen therefrom. The robbery was effected by taking down a shutter and breaking a pane of glass. A man was on Wednesday apprehended at Royston, on suspicion of being the offender, and was yesterday afternoon brought to Cambridge, and committed for trial at the ensuing sessions. His name is Samuel Bowman,  Cambridge Chronicle, 26 Sep 1823.  The trial of Samuel Bowman, for a robbery in the dwelling-house of Mr. Sadd, was removed to the assizes. Cambridge Chronicle, 3 Oct 1823. Cambridgeshire Assizes.  Samuel Bowman was indicted for stealing various articles jewellery, &c. to the value of .£50. from the shop of Mr. Sadd, in this town, on the night of the 19th of September. On the night in question, Mr. Sadd went to bed at ten o'clock, at which time the shutters of his shop were fastened. At five o'clock on the following morning, he was awakened by his servant, who told him the house had been robbed. going  down stairs, he perceived that the bolt to his shutters was unfastened, and that a pane of glass was broken out of the shop window, from which he missed a great variety of valuable property. On the 24th of September, the prisoner went to Mr. Andrews, a watchmaker at Royston, and asked for a key to fit a musical snuff-box. He also produced another j snuff-box, both of which wanted Mr. Andrews to purchase, and at length Mr. Andrews consented to give him watches in exchange. The prisoner said they were French boxes, and that he had brought them from Boulogne. He afterwards produced other articles of jewellery, which being evidently of English manufacture, Mr. Andrews suspected had stolen them, and recollected that a robbery had been committed at Cambridge. When he questioned the prisoner, he took alarm and quitted the shop. was the same evening apprehended a public-house, at Royston, when numerous articles were found upon him, all of which were identified by Mr. Sadd as those taken from his shop on the night of the robbery. The shutter of the prosecutor was discovered by a neighbour to be pulled down, at four o'clock in the morning, and he put the shutter, rang the bell, and left a person to watch till Mr. Sadd came down. Guilty. Sentence of death recorded. Cambridge Chronicle, 26 Mar 1824
