CHILD: William BOYD born 20 Jan 1851 at Hobart. Mother - Margaret BOYD, female convict. Father not named. (ref. 33/1/4 no. 93) A child, William BOYD died on 19 Feb 1851 at Hobart, aged 3 weeks, of convulsions. Although his mother's name is not stated on index, it is most likely this same child. (ref. 35/1/3 no. 603). 25 July 1854: Application for permission to marry to David Ferguson (transported per Equestrian). Approved. (ref. 52/1/7) 21 Aug 1854: Marriage - Margaret BOYD, aged 26 yrs, house servant to David Ferguson, aged 40 yrs, a shoemaker. At Parish Church of England, Oatlands, VDL. (ref. 37/1/13 no. 1256). Margaret BOYDE was convicted at Down, Ireland on 13 March 1849 for stealing a watch. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Earl Grey' arriving there 9 May 1850. Aged 22yrs; a laundress; single woman; 5'3" height; fresh complexion; very dark brown hair; Hazel eyes. Native place of birth: Co. Down, Ireland. Colony of VDL: Assigned to work services at various locations, including New Town, Hobart, Female Factory Ross, Campbell Town and Oatlands. 15 Nov 1850: Absent without leave. Sent to the Female Factory Hobart for 3 mths hard labour and not to be allowed into Hobart city. 27 Jan 1851: Delivered of a child named William, at the Female Factory, Hobart. (ref. notated on her Conduct Record) 30 May 1854: Ticket of Leave granted.
