MURDER BY A REVENUE POLICEMAN. A fatal occurrence look place Wednesday last, Ahenish near Mr. Pardon’s, of Tinerana, to whom too much praise cannot be given for his anxiety to develop the facts, and to bring the perpetrator to justice, It appears that party of Revenue police, stationed at Killaloe, were on duty in that neighbourhood, and on having made a seizure of the head of a still, they saw a boat push from the shore, in which were two men and two women, having with them the worm of a still. When police party, consisting of five, came up, one them, named Hugh Bracken, ran towards the boat, calling on the people in it to surrender, or he would fire at them, at the same time raising his musket and when within four yards of the boat discharged it, and lodged its contents in the body an interesting woman by the name of Mary Madden, who was with the other persons in the boat going to the fair of Tyrone, in the county Tipperary. The policeman immediately absconded, but was taken but was taken yesterday in Gort, by three Policemen, sent by Mr Pardon. An inquest was held by Thomas White Esq. and after a very long investigation, in which the Revenue Police gave their testimony in the most equivocal and creditable manner to themselves, the Jury, consisting of the most respectable farmers part of the country, found that the deceased came by her death in consequence of gun-shot wound feloniously inflicted on her by Hugh Bracken, of the Revenue Police.
