John Brady, age on arrival, 29, per Nautilus (2), 1840, Tried 1839 at Cavan, Life, for Shooting with intent, etc. DOB, 1811, native place, Cavan Co., married, 1 male, 1 female children, Catholic, Labourer. -------------------------------------------------- At the Cavan Assizes John Brady, found guilty of an attempt to assassinate the Rev. Mr. Beresford, has been sentenced to transportation for life. The Atlas, (London) 16 March 1839. ---------------------------------------------------- The trial of John Brady, James Brady, and Terence Rudden, charged with attempting the life of the Rev. Marcus Beresford, while on his way to Church on Sunday, the 22d July, commenced on Wednesday last at Cavan Assizes, and did not conclude until two o'clock on Thursday. An attempt at an alibi was made, but failed, and the jury brought in a verdict of guilty against John Brady; Rudden and James Brady not guilty. Bury and Norwich Post, 20 March 1839.
