Convict Notes

Absconded. Brady John, City of Edinburgh, 32-1436, 29, Cork, merchant's clerk, 5 feet 6¼, fair comp. brown hair, grey eyes, scar top of forehead, nose a little inclining to left side, from Port Macquarie, since August 5. NSW Govt. Gazette, 27 Aug 1834.

The following report is possibly that of John's trial, although in this, and other reports at the time, his name is reported as Tim Brady. There does not appear to be any other convict, sentenced to be tried in Cork, and sentenced to transportation, with surname Brady, apart from John Brady. CITY CRIMINAL COURT. Tim Brady was put to the bar, charged with stealing two sheets and one looking-glass, the property of James Connell. The prisoner, a distressed young looking man, pleaded guilty and said,—“ My Lord, I have seen better days, and as character is gone, and I have now no means of living. I would be very thankful to your Lordship, if you would have me transported for 7 years.” His Lordship nodded assent. Cork Constitution, 6 Aug 1831.
