… and Charlotte Bramwell, for stealing a table-cloth, at Preston ; were sentenced to seven years transportation. Lancaster Gazette, 26 July 1817. -------------------------------------------------- Charlotte had a colonial conviction in 1837 and was sentenced to Moreton Bay penal settlement. ------------------------------------------------- On Tuesday a woman named Charlotte French went into the house of a Mrs. Ellis in Elizabeth-street, on a matter of business; she had to pass a bedroom the door of which was open; upon a table within lay a watch which was Seen there a few minutes before her leaving the house, upon her departure it was immediately missed, pursuit was given by two young females who resided therein 1837; upon coming up with her, they charged her with purloining the watch which she denied, but it was found in and taken from her bosom. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1837 Charlotte French, stealing, guilty, five years to penal settlement. A List of Female Prisoners forwarded from Moreton Bay to Sydney – 9 May 1939 French or Bramwell, Charlotte/ “Maria”. At this time, Moreton Bay was closing as a penal settlement and prisoners were taken back to Sydney.
