George Branch was born in Fyfield Essex




George Branch was born at Twyfield, Essex, the son of Joseph Branch, who was a farm labourer, and who was also tried with George but died on the Hulk at Woolwhich in 1840 – and Mary Doe. George was 5’6 ¾” tall, Red hair, hazel eyes, freckled arms and face, fresh complexion, single. 15/12/1846: TOL July 1847: Recommended for a CP Aug. 1848: CP 14/9/1898: Aged 82, listed as a batchelor – married Eliza Saxon aged 77 at Bothwell. Eliza arrived as Eliza Pegram (Hindostan 1830) she was the widow of Matthew Saxon (Southworth 1830). Eliza died 29/8/1912 aged 91 at Bothwell. 6/2/1904: George died at Bothwell. 10/2/1904 The Mercury, Hobart: BRANCH.- On February 6, at his residence, Bothwell. George Branch, in the 88th year of his age.




Hé was convicted, along with his father (66), at Chelsford, Essex, of burglary 18July, 1839. His father, who was the brother of my g.g.g.grandfather, died in the prison hulk where they were both detained, in 1849. The prison log said he was a bad character. George Branch was noted as being "indifferent character"
