National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/110/54. 1835 Prisoner name: Peter Bennett, Pembroke Branch, Constant Burke, Richard Howlett, Thomas Loyal, Abraham Sampson, Peter Thomas, John Waterford. Court and date of trial: St Christopher's Vice Admiralty Court, April 1835. Crime: Stealing goods from a vessel (Faith). Initial sentence: Death, commuted to seven years transportation (Bennett, Branch, Burke, Howlett, Sampson, Thomas) and 14 years transportation (Loyal, Waterford). Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Two joint petitions from Thomas Loyal, John Waterford and Pembroke Branch (on board the Earl of Liverpool). Thomas Loyal, convict. Christopher Claxton, St Kitts Harbour Master. John Lyons Nixon, Lieutenant Governor of St Christopher's [St Kitts]. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): First offence. Goods from the Faith had become floatable, Thomas Loyal was asked (by a letter sent from the Faith) to salvage some goods which he and some men took ashore. Loyal was not allowed to present evidence at his Trial. Good behaviour from the prisoners whilst on board the Earl of Liverpool. Additional Information: Ordered to Justitia.

Gaol Report None, Hulk Report, Orderly ? Stated this Offence: Piracy. Real name- Mills, Single, Surgeon’s Report: very well behaved. Description : https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON18-1-4$init=CON18-1-4p91 2422. Pembroke Branch. Trade: Stone mason, 5 years ? & Butler. Age 26, height 5ft 6. Black complexion, black wooly hair. Remarks: ears pierced, a man of colour. Native place, Nevas. NSW Convict Index. Pembroke Branch, per Moffatt, 1838, Ticket of Leave, 40/1171. (ex Van Diemen’s Land) District: Sydney. Tried, St Kitts. Principal Superintendent of Convicts' Office, Sydney, 5th May, 1840. TICKETS-OF-LEAVE. THE undermentioned Prisoners of the Crown have obtained Tickets-of-Leave since the last day of publication :— Sydney. Pembroke Branch, Asia. NSW Govt. Gazette, 6 May 1840. ---------------------------------------------------- Ship News- Arrivals. From London and Hobart Town, .on Thursday, the ship Moffatt, 820 tons, Captain Bolton, from the former the 16th November, the latter the 19th instant, lading Colonial produce from Hobart Town. Passengers — Mr. and Mrs. Kemp, Rev. Messrs. Orton and Wilkinson, Major Smyth, 39th Regt.,Mrs. Montgomery and child, and Dr. King, It. N. In the steerage 17 adults, and 21 children, (emigrants forwarded to Sydney by the Tasmanian Government), 9 soldiers of the 50th Regt.,and 30 prisoners of the Crown. Commercial Journal, 28 Apr 1838.
