John BRENNAN was convicted at Westmeath, Ireland on 2 July 1840 for stealing hay. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'British Sovereign' arriving 17 March 1841. Aged 47yrs; married; farm labourer/ploughman/shepherd; 5'5"; Roman Catholic; can read & write. Native Place: Westmeath, Ireland. 12mths Probation Period in Colony. 1842: Noted as "remarkably good and quiet". Very good at sawing timber. 20 Feb 1844, at Sorell: insubordination. Term of sentence extended 1 yr and Probation term by 6mths. Sent to Jerusalem (mid-lands Tasmania). 21 Sept 1844: Ticket of Leave granted. 1846: at Green Ponds. 21 Sept 1847: Conditional Pardon approved. 7 Sept 1852: Free Certificate
