Bridget Gorey was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Convict Notes
The Convict Indentures state that Bridget Gorey was 70 years old. She could neither read or write; religion Roman Catholic; status married with two daughters and a native of County Longford. She was a kitchen maid. Bridget was convicted of stealing sheets at County Meath on 9 October 1837 and sentenced to 7 years. She had three prior convictions. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 11 inches; complexion dark sallow; hair brown and eyes blue. Transport number 93. Prisoner number 91-39. Comment on Indenture entry that 'her daughter Mary Walsh, a prisoner but 3 years ago' and 'that she had lost all her teeth.'
