The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

William Briggs was born on 25th March 1807 in England to Catherine & William Briggs. He was 18yrs old when transported. TRIAL: Middlesex Gaol Delivery, London 28th October 1824. CRIME: no: 1343. WILLIAM BRIGGS (aged 18yrs) and EDWARD CARTER (aged 20yrs) were indicted for stealing, on the 12th of October, fifteen pieces of ribbon, value 10 l.; four cloaks, value 3 l.; fourteen shawls, value 5 l.; four handkerchiefs, value 4 l.; 18 lbs. of thread, value 4 l.; one hundred and eight pieces of tape, value 28 s.; 4 lbs. of cotton, value 1 l.; twenty pieces of ferret, value 30 s.; and twelve pieces of silk-cord, value 6 s. ; the goods of Samuel Worpell; and EVE NATHAN was indicted for feloniously receiving the said goods, well knowing them to have been stolen. Spouse: see Convict Records for Norah Garver, age 21yrs, from the ship “Earl of Liverpool’, transported for 14yrs. Condition: Bond. Married at Parramatta 27 September 1832. The Revd.S. Marsden NRS 11212 {4/4508;Fiche 790}. Both signed with an “X”. Witnesses: James Humphrey and Michael Bryan. William died aged 55yrs, on 30th September and was buried 2nd October 1862 at Parramatta, Cumberland, New South Wales, Australia. I have not been able to locate any children of William & Norah and have not found Norah's death/burial. In case she had remarried I looked for marriages under Norah Briggs, but to no avail.
