Patrick Brittle was transported on the Brampton, departing 8th Nov 1822 and arriving 22nd Apr 1823 with 185 passengers.
The 'Brampton' ship was built in 1817 at King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. Originally used by the East India Company and then whaling before being a convict transport ship. Many of the Irish convicts on this ship were convicted under the Insurrection Act, for White Boy offences. 24 April 1823, the Sydney Gazette reported: On Tuesday last arrived from Ireland, with 183 male convicts, the ship Brampton, Captain Moore. She left London the 28th of July last; sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 8th of November; and last from the Cape of Good Hope, the 20th of February, from whence she brings eleven convicts.—Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Price, R. Colonial Secretary's Office, Sydney, 1st March, 1830. THE following Prisoners have obtained Tickets of Leave, since the last Day of Publication, viz : County of St. Vincent. Patrick Brittle, Brampton, Sydney Gazette, 4 Mar. 1830.




Patrick Brittle was 25 years old, a "Whiteboy" and his occupation was a "Carman/Ploughman". 1830: TOL Sydney 27/4/1837: CP 13/7/1831: Application to marry Mary McNamara age 18, (Forth) - Patrick was 32 with a TOL. They did marry in 1831 at St Mary's, Sydney and they had 5 children. 1853: Patrick was living in Sydney and made contributions to the Total Abstinence Fund. No date of death found.
