Cornwall Lent Assizes. William May Broad was indicted , for stealing: divers articles of shop goods, and for feloniously breaking and entering the dwelling house of Mr. John Allen Prvun? at West Looe in the County of Cornwall.— He has before been capitally indicted for house breaking and was tried at Bodmin Summer Assize 1816, under the name of William Thorne, which is his real name, when he received sentence of Death, but through the intercession of the Rev. J. Rowe, the Chaplain of the goal it was commuted to one year's imprisonment only ; since which he has been tried at the Session for the County, and imprisoned. He had been residing at Plymouth for some time, where he was known among his associates by the came of the Jolly young Farmer, and is supposed to have lived by theft for these many years. Inquest on 30 Mar 1822, on the body of William Maybrow. He was killed 27 March by a group of four black natives who went to his hut, and then he left the hut with two of them and his sheep. The other man in the hut was wounded in the head by the other two natives. Maybrow's body was later found about a quarter of a mile away near the river.
