Samuel Broadby was convicted at the Central Criminal Court, London on 27/11/1848 for stealing a hamper of wine. Previous convictions. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the 'Lady Montagu', arriving 09/12/1852. Born abt 1824 Bethnal/Portland Green, London. 5'10"; read & write; single man; Church of England; pork butcher; 27yrs of age; dark complexion; dark eyes; black hair. Brothers: John & William Sisters: Betsey & Margaret - at native place Gaol Report: very good Assignments in Colony. 1852: Constabulary 04/10/1853 Ticket of Leave 25/10/1853 recommended for Conditional Pardon for meritious conduct. 29/08/1854: Conditional Pardon 26/12/1856: Certified Free (at Westbury)




Not to be confused with Samuel BROADBEE the shoemkaker/bootmaker who arrived in Tasmania on 05.02.1851 on the Lady Kennaway. BROADBEE married Agnes WHITE (or PATON) in 1853. To date no other info found on Samuel BROADBY (the pork butcher).
